The Rostov Port May Obtain the Status of a Sea Port

17.07.2008

The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation has made a proposal to reconsider the status of the ports of Rostov-on-Don and Azov. In accordance with this proposal, the Rostov Port is to obtain the status of a sea port. For this, the Government of the Russian Federation will have to adopt a resolution on expanding the sea basin up to Rostov-on-Don.

These days the Rostov Port is a mouth port; it regularly admits foreign vessels. The intended readjustment will make it unnecessary for the Port to annually get applicable permissions in order to admit those ships belonging to other countries. In addition to this, all cargo transportation carried out via the Rostov Port will become even safer as there will be respective requirements put forth by international agreements and conventions, which will come into force for the Port straight after it obtains the new status.
